PTSDMichael is committed to helping veterans find peace after the traumatic experiences many soldiers experience. He has designed special workshops to help veterans move past the painful experience of war and to teach you how to become peaceful in the present moment. (aka the Now). Why is the Now important? According to the National Institute of Mental Health website, “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, (PTSD), is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. PTSD is an extreme example of the mind’s propensity to dwell in the past. (as well as the future). There is no stress in this moment. Having a tool that can be used in the moment to coax the mind into the Now and away from the past mitigates stress, enhances pleasure and enables sleep. While sleep is important to all of us, those with PTSD often fear the dream.& Regular practice of the Now Sound slows the brainwaves into a dreamless near sleep state that is more beneficial than sleep itself. While most of these meditation techniques have been traditionally taught by yoga teachers who complete years of training, the power of the Now Sound will be experienced and understood in a few months by veterans who may not know a yoga mat from a yo-yo. The reason is while the Now Sound had been passed down from Hindu teachers to disciples, the specialty of the Now Sound is it works for anyone. It can be practiced very easily and naturally by any generation, by people of any religion. It can practiced while living an ordinary life anywhere. Veteran facilitators will be able to share the Now Sound from their combat experience. Ideally, Now Sound facilitators will include those who previously experienced the pain of PTSD. Although there are a plethora of stress management companies, life coaches, spiritual centers, and yoga studios offering techniques for lowering stress and experiencing the Now, the courses they offer take hours and in many cases days to learn and experience. The techniques are also taught to be used in a quiet place and practiced for extended periods of time. The pain of destructive stress happens in a moment. Waiting to mitigate the pain until you have the time to get quiet is tantamount to waiting to get home to take an aspirin for a headache. The Now Sound is unique as it can lower the pain of destructive stress in a few breaths. The Now Sound is designed to be used in the moment when you need it. Instead of leaving the noise of the world, you can be at peace in the middle of the chaos. The costs of these courses are hundreds and in some cases thousands of dollars. The Now Sound is pursuing the possibility of providing veterans the Now Sound free of charge by hopefully using the facilities of VFW clubs nationwide and training veterans in their communities to share the Now Sound with their fellow veterans.
