What is the Now Sound?

The Now Sound is an ancient technique that brings you sublime peace within by listening to the sound of your breath.  All sound fades into silence.  The sound of your breath dies into the subtle space between the breaths.  The stress of the past and the future dissolve into this space allowing you to experience this very moment, the now.

 

Is the Now Sound a meditation technique?

Yes, it is a meditation technique. However, while most meditations require a quiet area or placing the body in a particular position, the Now Sound can be practiced anytime, any where. The Now Sound is like being in the eye of the hurricane even while being surrounded by chaos. The Now Sound helps you find peace in the moment, one breath at a time.

 

How is the Now Sound different from other mantras?

The Now Sound is a natural mantra. There are many mantras are repeated using the sound of your voice. The Now Sound is not like these. The Now Sound arises spontaneously from within you and repeats itself naturally with your breathing.  Mantras are spoken; the Now Sound is listened to and the mind becomes naturally quiescent.

 

How will the Now Sound affect my religious beliefs?

The Now Sound does not violate any religious beliefs.  Whether you practice a religion or not, the in-breath and the out-breath is happening.  As you become more aware of the natural energy of the breath you may however, embrace your belief with greater attention.

 

When is the best time to do the Now Sound?

The Now Sound is best experienced whenever you do not need your mind.  For example, once the water temperature is set do you need the mind to take a shower?  Yet, how often does our mind go to the potential traffic or a to-do list rather than enjoying the beautiful warm water in that moment?  The Now Sound helps identify times and activities during the day when you can disengage from the mind and allow yourself to enjoy a simple task with all your attention and intention.  The Now Sound is also the antidote for the destructive stress caused by the pace of our hectic world.  When the pain of stress arises, the Now Sound is there to ease or erase the pain.

 

What are the physical benefits of the Now Sound?

  • It increases blood flow and slows the heart rate.
  • It increases exercise tolerance in heart patients.
  • It leads to a deeper level of relaxation.
  • It enables sleep.
  • It reduces high blood pressure.
  • It relieves anxiety attacks by lowering the levels of blood lactate.
  • It decreases muscle tension (any pain due to tension) and headaches.
  • It builds self-confidence.
  • It increases serotonin production, which influences mood and behavior.
  • It helps in chronic diseases like allergies, arthritis etc.
  • It enhances the immune system.

 

How long does it take to learn the Now Sound?

The Now Sound technique can be learned in a matter of minutes.  However, it does require practice. Once one is proficient in the Now Sound it becomes as natural as, well, breathing.

 

What is the philosophical foundation of the Now Sound?

The Now Sound comes from the Vijnana Bhairava, an ancient Hindu scripture.
Even though the Vijanana Bhairava is a scripture of India, it does not belong to India or any other region, culture or religion.  It only belongs to human Consciousness.

 

Why is a hummingbird the Now Sound symbol?

The hummingbird ideally represents the Now Sound for many reasons:

  • The first syllable of “hummingbird” matches the sound of the in-breath.
  • The hummingbird is unique in that the motion of its wings make a figure “8”, the sign of infinity, which parallels the infinite rhythm of the breath.
  • The hummingbird’s hovering demonstrates stillness in motion, just as the Now Sound provides stillness as you move through your busy day.
  • The hummingbird draws nectar from the flower as the Now Sound draws creative “nectar” from your own energy, your higher mind, your own inner Self.
  • The hummingbird goes into hibernation each night, lowering its body temperature and heartbeat before sleep. The Now Sound significantly slows brainwaves and heart rate which enhances sleep.
